The problems facing the educational system since America joined the efforts in Europe fighting World War 1 appeared on page 4 of the November 21, 1918 issue of The DeKalb Daily Chronicle. Those problems include construction of new schools and poorly trained or unprepared teachers. The rural schools have more of a challenge due to the number of grades for a sole teacher compared to city schools where a teacher is assigned to one grade.
