January 9, 1901 - Illinois legislation

On page 8 of the January 9, 1901 edition of the True Republican, it was reported that the Illinois state superintendent, Alfred Bayliss planned to consolidate rural schools.  Reasons cited were the decreasing numbers of students due to farming efficiencies as well as an increase in the migration from the farming communities to cities.

This action would eventually lead to the Browne school no longer known as Milan Township District #1, but rather DeKalb County School District #80.
