The January 13, 1912 edition of The True Republican published a story on page 7 concerning the murder of a school teacher which took place at the schoolhouse where the victim taught.
Unfortunately, even 100 years ago schools dealt with gun violence just as the United States continues to face it on a much larger and devastating scale today.
In the book, "Rural Schools Journeys: A Legacy of Learning, Histories of the One-room Schools in Dekalb County, Illinois" there is a brief mention of the trauma Browne school students faced when one of their peers had died. You can purchase the book here.
