Following Grace Griffin who taught at the Browne school for two school years, Rose Riley taught for the 1913 - 1914 school session.
Rose was born to Honora 'Nora' (O'Sullivan) and Patrick Riley in Whiteside county, Illinois on April 12, 1891. Rose first shows up on the 1900 US Census living (lines 21 - 28) with her parents, Patrick and Nora and her siblings, John, William, May, Catherine and Helena. The family resided in Mount Pleasant township, Whiteside county, Illinois.
Whiteside county is bordered by Iowa to the west and Lee county, Illinois to the east.
Rose was living (lines 7 - 10) with her mother, Nora and her siblings Carrie (Catherine) and Helena. Rose's father Patrick had passed away a few years earlier in 1904. Rose's employment is listed as a teacher for a rural school. Malta township adjoins Milan township to the south where the Browne school was located.
Rose married Joseph S Askvig in DeKalb, Illinois on January 24, 1916. By the time of the 1910 US Census, Rose was living (lines 96 - 98) with her husband, Joseph and their son, Harlan in Malta, Malta township, DeKalb county, Illinois. Employment for Rose is listed as 'none'. It was common once a female school teacher married they often gave up their teaching career.
In 1940, the Riley family was still residing in Rochelle, Illinois. Rose was living (Sheet 6-A, lines 38 - 40 and Sheet 6-B, lines 41 - 41) with husband Joseph and their sons Harlan, William and Charles.
