The move toward school consolidation as families move from rural communities to urban centers. On page 4 of the September 5, 1914 edition of The True Republican, an article appeared titled 'City Children Are The Healthier". As a result of this article and others with a similar theme, a few areas attempted to make improvements, however nothing would stop the consolidation trend with the eventual demise of the rural schoolhouse.
